Wildfire Safety Inspection Program - Environmental Support | Northern California

Industry: Utilities

Services: Biological Resources

Surf to Snow served as subconsultant providing environmental support services for our client’s Wildfire Safety Inspection Program. This program encompassed most of the state and is a dynamic project as the utility company seeks to manage fuels hazards – especially in the Sierra and coastal foothills regions. Services provided include environmental project compliance coordination, biological monitoring, and stormwater compliance support.

Project activities supported completion of essential pruning/removal of more than 1.4 million trees annually along more than 100,000 miles of overhead power lines and maintaining fire breaks to meet or exceed state and federal requirements for wildfire risk reduction. Our support included working directly with the client to coordinate fieldwork for project locations. This included identifying, for each project location, specific permits and environmental background (such as potential special status species) to support fieldwork planning. We then coordinated and scheduled the appropriately qualified biological monitoring staff to be on-site during fuels management activities. In a twelve-month period, we have supported 561 projects on this program across northern California.
