Newell Creek Dam Inlet/Outlet Replacement

Industry: Public, Municipal

Services: Stormwater

S2S provided QSD/QSP oversight of a construction project at Newell Creek Dam managed by the City of Santa Cruz Water Department. The City’s project included dredging for foundation and in-lake spoils disposal, installation of vertical shafts and pipelines, construction of a 1,500-foot tunnel, replacement of intake control building on dam crest, and decommissioning of the existing inlet/outlet. S2S QSDs amended SWPPP documents and assisted the City of Santa Cruz with the completion of annual reporting in the SMARTS Database. S2S provided SWPPP training to Construction Contractors to ensure all SWPPP permit compliance requirements were adhered to throughout the duration of work. Weekly and storm-based inspections and sampling tasks during rain events were performed by various S2S staff. S2S staff routinely inspected and verified that the applied BMPs were effective and ensured minimal discharge left the construction site. Due to this project being a Risk Level 3, S2S monitored all discharges and took receiving water samples to confirm compliance with the Construction General Permit. The S2S annual reports that were developed each calendar year met all compliance standards and submitted prior to the due date.
